Ariadna Gutiérrez and Steve Harvey at the Miss Universe pageant.

If you haven’t of Ariadna Gutiérrez yet, then chances are you’ve either been living under a rock somewhere or currently reside in an abode lacking a decent Wi-Fi connection.

That’s because, to all intents and purposes, Gutiérrez is already a household name, though perhaps not for the reasons she would have wished.

The winner of Miss Colombia two years ago, the actress, model, television host and beauty queen is probably best recognised for her part in the 2015 Miss Universe fiasco.

Having made it all the way to the final two, Gutiérrez was infamously informed by host Steve Harvey that she was the overall winner of the event ahead of Miss Philippines entrant Pia Wurtzbach.

The only problem was? She wasn’t. Harvey had misread the results that saw Gutiérrez finish in the rather poorly worded position of “1st runner-up”.

Not that it mattered to the millions watching at home, with Harvey, Gutiérrez and Wurtzbach featuring in all variety of gifs, memes and video mash-ups that sent up the entire sorry affair.

Though Harvey and the organisers suffered the brunt of the criticism, the 22-year-old model was far from happy.

Gutiérrez the great

“It was very humiliating for me, but also for the whole country,” she told The Latin Times in the aftermath of the contest.

Almost three months on from the incident, however, and Gutiérrez’s star may be on the rise again.

Though the Miss Universe incident may have been a source of some embarrassment, it did raise her profile considerably, with Ariadna’s Instagram account boasting some 1.5 million followers.

More significant still is the news that Gutierrez is set for her first major movie role having been cast in the Vin Diesel led xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.

“My dream came true. I want to say thank you to my people, for bringing me here and thank you @vindiesel I’ll see you in the movie,” Gutiérrez wrote on her Instagram account, while also sharing a picture of herself alongside the film’s star.

With UFC’s Conor McGregor also set to cameo in what will be the third film in the xXx franchise but only the first sequel to feature Vin Diesel, hopes are high that the movie can replicate the of success the Fast & Furious saga.

For Gutiérrez, meanwhile, it could offer the opportunity to erase any memory of Miss Universe or Steve Harvey, once and for all.
