2015 has been a massive year for international clotheshorses, with Forbes World’s Highest-Paid Models list featuring huge earnings for recent retiree Gisele Bündchen alongside Cara Delevingne and Adriana Lima.

But with the huge £30m hole left by Brazilian bombshell Bündchen, all’s to play for to attain similarly dizzying pay cheques.

Dutch stunner Romee Strijd has already had a massive career despite only being around for a short time. She’s walked the runway for Burberry, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton and Prada. She’s also featured in advertising campaigns for Alexander McQueen, Donna Karan, Giuseppe Zanotti, H&M and Marchesa as well as appearing on the cover of Elle and Vogue Netherlands.

Swedish beauty Elsa Hosk was a professional basketball player, but began gracing the Victoria’s Secret runway in 2011 before winning Sweden’s Next Top Model in 2012.

Her distinctive look has lead to her working with high-profile photographer Ellen von Unworth in campaigns for Guess before being signed up as a full Angel in 2015. Hosk has also worked to support anti-human-trafficking organization FAIR Girls.

Sara Sampaio became the first Portuguese model to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue after modelling for brands like Calzedonia. She’s also won the Portuguese Golden Globe for Best Female Model four times despite still being only 24.

Sampaio is also a brown belt in karate and was rumoured to be dating Harry Styles after Entertainment Weekly reported seeing the model leaving a hotel he was staying at in July. More people watch porn than ever before – but how does the industry cope when so much of it is free?

The increasing popularity in free sites like PornHub and Redtube means that, much like the music industry, people working in porn have to work harder than ever before to succeed.

One of those businesses is Burning Angel, which was launched in 2002 by Joanna Angel, who writes and directs adult movies as well as performing in front of the camera.

Through the firm, Angel also pretty much single-handedly invented what has become known as alt-porn.

“There are more people watching porn now, but that’s what happens when something becomes free,” she tells Loaded. “Because of that, making a profit in the industry is very difficult now. It can be heartbreaking sometimes but, as with anything you love, there comes challenges.”

Despite the difficulties Angel in 13 years at the helm, this year she will be inducted into the AVN Hall Of Fame. The AVN Awards, which take place in Las Vegas on January 23, are the XXX equivalent of the Oscars.

Reality check

“I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished, but sometimes it seems surreal as I still feel like I’m a nobody,” continues the 35-year-old. “I think any small business owner can relate to what an incredible feeling it is to start something from nothing and then watch it explode.”

Angel says she started working in the industry because of the taboos around porn, and to do something fun. So as she prepares to take her industry’s top honour, does she feel she’s achieved that with her business?

“My life is definitely fun!” proclaims the New Yorker. “I’m very thankful for everything that I have and feel blessed to be able to continue creating interesting products. Even on the most challenging days, I never wish that I’d done something else for a living.”

Despite that pride, certain stigmas around porn remain. Many still believe those working in the industry are exploited.

“We’re selling beauty,” she counters. “We’re selling sexuality. I pay people to photograph them doing sexual things. Those photographs are then what I have to use to keep my business going. I have to sell that product. I’m sure people could say that’s exploitative, but I’m not sure it’s the right term.”

Angel dated adult movie actor James Deen for six years, who was accused of rape in December by another of his exes, porn actress Stoya. A number of other performers, including Tori Lux, Ashley Fires, Amber Rayne, Kora Peters, Nicki Blue and Lily LaBeau, have also gone on record with further allegations, which Deen denies.

Won’t take it lying down

Angel is keen to stress that the allegations are not representative of the wider industry.

“What’s been happening in the news recently is specific to one individual and I don’t think it exists in the industry as a whole,” she says. “I want to make that very clear.”

Something else Angel makes clear is what performers must be comfortable with before deciding to work in porn.

“It’s not an industry for everyone. If it’s not making you feel good about yourself then the mental anguish is not worth any price”

“This is an industry where your body and things that are very personal to certain people are going to be on display,” Angel explains. “Some people are going to like it and some people aren’t, but you have to realise as a performer that’s something you have to be OK with.

“I have people commenting on me being beautiful and wonderful regularly, but at the same time I have people taking my body apart and telling me how they don’t like the way I look. That’s something you have to be prepared for.

“You’ve also got to know what you want to do and what you don’t. It’s about knowing where your limits are and sticking with them. It’s not an industry for everyone. And if it’s not making you feel good about yourself, then you shouldn’t do it. The mental anguish that you are going to face is not worth any price.

“If you don’t feel that this is the right place for you then don’t stick around. That’s the reality of the porn industry.”

In the biggest solo loving news since Pamela Anderson fronted the last nude issue of Playboy last month, online adult entertainment giant PornHub have released their 2015 “insights”.

It’s a long and sometimes slightly unnerving gaze into the porn viewing habits of people across the world.

A whopping 4,392,486,580 hours of XXX were watched on PornHub globally last year. Those hours were spent across 87,849,731,608 videos, which equates to 12 videos for every person on earth. (Tell that to the person sniggering over your shoulder in the office.)

In short: the world watched a lot of porn last year.

The site received a whopping 21.2bn visits last year, which equates to 2.4m people bashing away an hour – 40,000 a minute or 6,700 a second. 

Great news, then, considering that recent research has shown masturbation can reduce our resting heart rate for up to twelve hours as well as being a great stress reliever.

In terms of how UK self-servicers stack up, we come in at 168 page views per person – second only to the States. The US is at the head of the table in bishop bashers with a massive 191 pvpp.

The UK stood proud on page views, despite stiff competition from India, who climbed one position on to third. Canada and Germany round off the top five.

Leading lady

Despite the fact that the French are renowned for being fantastic lovers, the UK spanks them in the stamina chart by a potentially all-important nine seconds, with tuggers this side of the pond lasting 9mins 18secs on the site. This stands the UK in seventh place on the global chart, but still two seconds off the worldwide average.

Those looking for a good-time for a long-time should head to the Philippines, who come in at a marathon enduring 12mins 45secs, ahead of the US in second who stay strong for 9mins 51secs.

The bottom of the stamina chart? Cuba, who can only manage 5mins 11secs.

Breaking the hourly stats down between men and women shows that men prefer to crack one off in the morning, with a traffic index almost 25% higher than women between 5am and 8am. Ladies seem to prefer buttering the biscuit on lunch and during the twilight hours, topping men between midday and 3pm and then again from 9pm to midnight.

Rising star

In terms of UK traffic, 78% of that seen on PornHub was male to 22% female, with the volume of British women using PornHub coming in at No 17 globally.

“Lesbians” was both the most popular search term for people looking for solo dancing in the UK. But “celebrity sex tape” was the biggest gaining search, rising 312%. Which shows we’re all desperate to watch that Tulisa video after all. The other top three fastest-rising searches are big surprises –  “British chav”(up 169%) and “cartoon” (+104%). That’s a lot of people who fancy Barney Rubble’s wife in The Flintstones.

Lisa Ann – who Loaded interviewed this week, so stand by – stands at the top of the most-watched porn stars in Britain’s chart despite the fact that she retired at the end of 2014, joined by fellow Loaded interviewee Mia Khalifa and Kim Kardashian.

However, Lisa Ann dropped two places globally to number three, with Kanye’s missus topping that chart. Mia Khalifa came in at second, rising a massive 197 places after infamously humping in a hijab on camera last year. In terms of new faces, Khalifa was dwarfed by Kendra Sunderland and Peta Jensen, whose views rose 3,869% and 3,246% respectively.

Finally, those jerking off on their phone rose by 13% in the UK in 2015, now dwarfing those having a desktop tug at a share of 53% vs. 29%.

One reassuring fact from the statistics is that the most used word in PornHub’s comments sections is ‘love’. What a romantic bunch of wankers we are.

Abbey Clancy returns to where it all all began next week as she takes the head judge role on the tenth series of Britain’s Next Top Model, which is back for the first time since 2013.

The 29-year-old mother-of-two, who recently featured in LOVE Magazine’s Advent campaign, was runner up on the show in 2006. Now Clancy will decide the fate of the 15 hopefuls battling to see if they have what it takes to become Britain’s next runway star.

On the show, Clancy is joined by fashion journalist Hilary Alexander, model Paul Sculfor – who has dated Lisa Snowden, Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz – and photographer Nicky Johnston, the resident bad-guy judge.

Cue weeks of sweat, tears, cutting remarks and obscure tasks to decide who wins a professional modelling contract.

It seems to have worked, as she’s since been on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar as well as doing work for Miss Selfridge, Revlon, Joy and TRESemmé.

Jade Thompson

Stoke-born stunner Jade Thompson worked as an insurance advisor before being spotted by previous head judge Elle McPherson and co. Since then she’s been the face of Clothes Show Live in 2013 as modelling for Levi’s, Schwarzkopf and Miss Selfridge. In the show, Thompson faced solid competition, with runner-up Justė Juozapaitytė also finishing second on Russia’s Next Top Model and third-placed Imogen Heaver modelling for Tommy Hilfiger and DKNY.

British-Maltese Tiffany Pisani was the youngest contestant on the 2010 series, beating off stiff competition in Joy McClaren, who went on to work for Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein and Baby-G. Pisani went on to do a range of high-fashion runway work, as well as campaigns for Schwarzkopf, before starting a swimwear brand under her own name.

Mecia Simson

Mecia Simson went from sandwich shop worker to win in 2009 and subsequently featured in campaigns for the likes of Max Factor, VV Brown and ASOS. The Plymouth-born model also starred as Olly Murs’ love interest in the video for Oh My Goodness. Fortunately the song did better than Murs’ attempts at reading an autocue, peaking at No 13.

Alexandra Evans

Surrey-born Alexandra Evans went on to feature in campaigns for Lynx as well as appear in the video for Charlie Simpson’s Down Down Down, before he ran back to Busted. However, the pinnacle of Evans’ modelling career came when she appeared as a rapping farmer on a TV advert for Yeo Valley. Evans has now relocated to LA to pursue a career in acting – she soon stars in London Fields, alongside Cara Delevingne and Amber Heard.

2007

Lauren McAvoy

Essex-born Lauren McAvoy has appeared in campaigns for BaByliss, Nivea and Tommy Hilfiger as well the music video for The Wanted’s Glad You Came. Her career highlight has to be appearing on Top Gear, testing the effects of wind on hair in a new Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8 V10 Spyder.

2006

Lianna Fowler

Then 18-year-old Lianna Fowler beat Abbey Clancy to the title in 2006. She subsequently went on to appear in British and Russian editions of Vogue as well as campaigns for Swatch, American Apparel, Levi’s and Marc Jacobs. Despite this, and work with cult photographer Rankin, Clancy ended up the bigger name of the two after she hooked up with Peter Crouch.

Lucy Ratcliffe

The inaugural winner of Britain’s Next Top Model went on to work for Ruby & Millie Cosmetics, Michael Kors and Elie Saab. Lucy Ratcliffe also appeared on the cover of Red, Cosmopolitan and Country House. In 2007, Ratcliffe switched her homeland of North Tyneside for LA, signing with Profile Model Management under the name Lucy Berry. She has since quit modelling and opened her own fashion boutique in London.

7am, January 5, 2015. It’s -10C in midtown Manhattan and New York’s usually busy streets are still eerily quiet before the city that never sleeps wakes up.

Wrapped up in layers upon layers to keep warm, Lisa Ann is carrying a bag full of books to the post office. She’s done this pretty much every day since her autobiography The Life was published in December, as she decided to personally run her own web store for the book.

The scene is a far cry from the career she built in the adult movie industry – an industry that made her the most-searched-for porn star on the planet at the peak of her success.

The Life tells the story of how, aged 42, Lisa Ann shocked the XXX world by announcing her retirement in December 2014. Since giving up porn, she’s established a successful career as a sports radio host. It’s a move which sees her nominated for Crossover Star Of The Year at Friday’s Xbiz Awards.

But it hasn’t all been plain sailing since retirement for Ann, full name Lisa Ann Corpora.

Leading lady

On New Years Eve 2014, after receiving her first death threat from an anonymous source, Ann had six policeman searching her house with guns drawn.

“It was the most traumatic thing I’d ever experienced,” Ann tells Loaded. “It really made a mess of me. People just don’t think about the impact something like that has on people’s lives.”

The death threats continued and resulted in Ann hiring a detective to attempt to trace them. Despite turning her life upside down, and living in fear for much of 2015 as the search for her terroriser carried on, Ann doesn’t feel angry with whoever was behind them.

“I just wanted to make it to midnight with no death threats”

“It’s not that they hated me,” she explains. “They hated the fact that I finished the race. My plan was to be in the business to set up my future, save some money, get another career going and then get out.

“What’s funny is that the darkest moments in life show you who you truly are. And what it made me understand is that, no matter how much I miss the people in the adult film business, I no longer belonged there.”

Ann says that she’s changed more this year than any other in her life. She spent this New Year’s Eve at home again, but in very different circumstances.

“I just wanted to make it to midnight with no death threats,” she explains. “To be able to go to bed and wake up in a new year that I’m not starting in such a fearful place.”

Won’t turn her back

It’s obvious when talking to Ann that she’s switched-on, a million miles away from the public stereotype of a porn star.

In her book, which Ann started writing two years before she retired, Ann alludes to the fact that she’d began to feel like she didn’t fit in the porn industry any more.

“The business is so different to how it was in the 90s,” she explains. “The scenes used to be a lot softer and kinder. Then the internet came along with a thirst for different niches, where women get smacked for quite abusive scenes. I realized I didn’t really fit in with how the industry changed.”

During her time in porn, Ann was an advocate for a number of safety measures to protect performers, announcing in 2010 that she would only be shooting scenes with condoms after porn star Derrick Burts was diagnosed with HIV. She also worked to improve STD testing system in the porn world.

“It’s something now I’ve retired that I want to continue working on,” she continues. “I want to open up discussions about regulation, or at least educating people who come into the business. It’s understandable how so many people get into bad situations.”

The Life also portrays how Ann struggled to keep her head above water in an industry that seemingly, despite boasting a majority of responsible colleagues, has a minority who will happily stab performers in the back for an extra buck. Fortunately, Ann managed to keep control of her own career, and even took a break in 1997 during an AIDS scare.

Despite such a turbulent relationship, the Pennsylvania-born star doesn’t resent her time in the industry for a minute.

“It’s a very small community; it’s very intimate. So it’s like being in a gang. I look back at what I did in the business and only realise now how much balls it took.

“I’m so proud to have been part of something so unique and something that everybody else wishes they could do. It’s funny, but to the young generation I’m like a superhero.”

Despite this superhero status Ann once claimed that if she hadn’t made it in porn, she’d have tried to become a sports agent.

The beginning of her retirement came when she took a role interviewing porn starlets on American radio channel Sirius XM in 2013. Having been a sport fan from a young age, she began talking about sports with her callers. The rest is history.

The Life

She’s since been given her own Sirius XM fantasy sports show, Lisa Ann Does Fantasy, and also features on a weekly drive-time programme, Morning Men.

“It’s fascinating to be in corporate America after being my own boss for my entire life,” says Ann. “But the opportunities have been endless and everybody at Sirius has been so supportive.”

The transition into fantasy sports wasn’t an easy one, and saw Ann take up weeks of studying how each sport’s different fantasy leagues work.

“I was up to speed on everything sports-related other than baseball,” she explains. “What I didn’t know was the fantasy dynamic, how the different leagues work and all the scoring systems.

“I wanted to prove to my bosses that it was worth hiring me, but I also want to be able to run with the big dogs of the sport world. If you give me a project, I’m going to put everything into it.”

This work ethic is proven by her most famous role as Serra Palin in Who’s Nailin’ Palin?, a spoof of Sarah Palin during the 2008 campaign.

Not a face for radio

It was so successful, she went on to do five sequels: Obama Is Nailin’ Palin, Letterman’s Nailin’ Palin, You’re Nailin’ Palin, Hollywood’s Nailin’ Palin, and Who’s Nailin’ Palin? 2. That’s a whole lot of nailin’.

As Palin, she also made the world’s mainstream TV screens when she reprised the role in the video for Emimen’s single We Made You.

The role required Ann to travel the world to shoot and promote the films for Larry Flynt’s porn company, Hustler. The original saw her star alongside fellow porn performers Nina Hartley, who played Hilary Clinton, and Jada Fire, who appeared as Condoleezza Rice.

“It shows that people still want to see good basic sex”

“It was hard to shoot,” she laughs.  “We had to keep firing out these funny lines during the sex, so we just kept laughing. It was a lot of fun and I feel very proud to have been part of a such a huge project for Hustler.”

Despite the fun side, working in porn had an impact on her finding a long-term partner. She was briefly married to a bouncer when she was 28, before dating Rob Kardashian in 2009. Her most recent partner was 18-year-old gridiron player Justin Brent.

“I’m craving the nesting thing now,” she explains. “So this year I might take on the adventure of going on a couple of dates. It’s going to take a little bit of time but it’ll all work out when it’s meant to be.”

Life-long sports fan

“It’s going to have to be a very unique person who can completely accept my past. And not a person that thinks I still live a type of life where I’m going to have wild sex parties with them. I barely even drink anymore.”

It’s hard to believe that Ann, who PornHub recently announced was the most popular porn star in the UK in 2015 despite retiring, would have any trouble finding a partner.

But what does she think makes her continue to be so popular on-screen?

“It has more to do with what I represented than me personally. I was doing what I wanted to be doing on film, and nobody was forcing me to do anything.

“What my popularity shows is that the world still wants to see a girl who knows what she’s doing, who wants to be doing it and is smiling.

“I didn’t want to be smacked or choked. And what that shows is that despite all that other stuff that’s out there, people still want to see good basic sex.”

Joanna Angel will be the toast of the porn industry on January 23 when she steps up to host the 2016 AVN Awards alongside last year’s best actress winner Annika Albrite.

Veteran adult actress/director Angel says it’s an honour that most porn stars dream of.

“It’s a really big deal to be asked by the Adult Video Network,” she explains of the ceremony regarded as XXX’s version of the Oscars. “I know if it ever happens to a girl in the industry, it only really happens once. So it’s a lot of pressure.”

Despite her long career – one that’s seen Angel helped instigate the flourishing alt-porn genre – Angel tells Loaded she has pre-award nerves.

“Performing in front of all your peers is always more nerve racking than if you’re in a room full of complete strangers,” continues the 35-year-old.

“People are infatuated with the AVN Awards but they still make jokes about them”

“I’m a perfectionist, so I want to do a really good job, which means there’s loads of things I’m nervous about.”

Despite these nerves, Angel is defiant to those who sneer at the industry she’s carved such an illustrious career in.

Outrageous sex

“A lot of people are infatuated with the AVN Awards,” she says. “They think they’re cool and interesting, but they still make a lot of jokes about them.

“The media see it as a source of humour, but they don’t understand how much it means to people in the industry. I’m not sure they ever will. But that’s fine, I don’t give a shit. This is a night for people in the porn world, and most of us don’t really care what everybody else thinks.

“When I see a girl accepting an award for best anal scene I’m proud of her. Or I’m upset with myself that I didn’t win it! But I see it as a serious thing.

“This year is definitely going to be different to my usual awards experience, but it’s a night where everyone in the industry can make something a little more glamorous than we usually do.”

The first gong Angel won at the AVN Awards was for Most Outrageous Sex Scene with established male porn star Tommy Pistol in her 2004 hit Re-Penetrator.

“It’s a parody of Re-Animator,” she explains. “In the scene, I’m a zombie and Tommy is a mad scientist. I literally fuck him to death. It’s all very over the top. That will always stick out in my memory, as it’s a really funny one to win. But every award means a lot to me.”

Angel’s production company BurningAngel is nominated for a whopping 24 gongs at the AVNs including Best Parody for Joanna Angel’s Making The Band and Best Comedy for Killler Kleavage From Outer Space, in which lasers fly from the actresses’ breasts.

Angel, who dates porn actor Small Hands, is up for nine awards herself including Mainstream Star Of The Year and Best Web Director. But she’s clear on the one that means the most to her.

Stoya hit headlines when she accused her ex-boyfriend and male porn star James Deen of rape in a series of tweets. A number of other performers, including Joanna Angel, Tori Lux, Ashley Fires, Amber Rayne, Kora Peters, Nicki Blue and Lily LaBeau, have since gone public to say Deen assaulted them too. His career has been crumbling since, with several porn companies severing ties with him as well as a sex toy bearing his likeness being pulled from production.

Perhaps better known as ‘The hijab porn star’, Khalifa hit the headlines in 2014 when she infamously humped on camera wearing the traditional Muslim garb. The BangBros film initially sparked outrage in her home country of Lebanon with haters claiming she had brought disgrace to the nation and insulted Islam. Khalifa stated in an interview with Loaded that she felt she is being made a scapegoat for internet censorship in her native land, and many others there have since demonstrated against the government, showing support for the American porn star. We’ve teamed up with journalist Su Zume to investigate Japan’s bizarre sexual underworld. She’s spent the past decade examining the ins-and-outs of Japan’s debauched £10billion-a-year XXX industry, so there’s no better tour guide.

Synchronised orgies. Nurse porn. Teacher porn. Granny porn. Virgin porn. Shit-eaters. Sexual assault porn. And cartoon porn. You name it (or delve into the most depraved depths of your mind and try and imagine it) and the chances are you’ll get all of it – and more – in Japan.

By day, it’s a country regarded by most as one of respectful calm. But by night, behind closed doors, Japan harbours a mind-blowingly kinky underworld, satisfying the very darkest of desires – far from prying eyes.

Ranging from the unbelievable to the downright disturbing, welcome to Japan’s sex underground – frequented by Japanese men and women of all ages, as well as armies of sex tourists, every night of the week.

Hostess and strip clubs, staying at ‘love hotels’ or getting your rocks off in a dominatrix’s chamber dressed up as a rubber dog – the menu is endless.

All this in a country where the average person has sex just 36 times a year – compared to the global average of 97 – which puts the Japanese bottom of the sex league table.

Disturbing

For many here, porn films are their first port of call for perverse kicks – and it’s big business. Porn sales and streaming make up a hefty chunk of the estimated £10billion a year raked in by sex-related businesses in Japan.

Soft On Demand is one of the country’s largest adult video companies, knocking out more than 1000 titles a year.

Its videos span a wide gamut, from hypnotised women having sex to quiz-show-themed porn flicks.

“Older girls are quite popular. In Japan that means late-twenties”

The company is so successful it’s branched out into selling branded condoms and lubes.

In a rare interview, CEO Chie Sugawara says what sets Japanese porn apart from that in the UK and the US is the attention to detail.

“It’s really meticulous,” he says. “And there are so many different genres: straight-up sex, rape, amateur porn, scat involving urine and excrement, trans porn… There are probably over 100 different genres. So, I think the Japanese have diverse sexual tastes.”

It’s disturbing to think that rape and molestation porn even exists, but it’s a theme that continually comes up when interviewing those in the industry in Japan.

On Demand

“Another point is, it’s not like the audience have a particular fixation forever,” Sugawara continues. “They change around a lot. For example, people who like schoolgirls might be into nurses the next year. Porn simply provides stimulation, so once you get used to one type of stimulation, you go on to the next.”

So what’s the most popular niche porn on his books?

“Chikan (molestation.) I don’t think it’s OK overseas, but in Japan, it’s a really popular genre.”

Japan’s alarming production of rape porn is completely at odds with the nation’s crime rates for such crimes, where it ranks amongst the lowest in the world.

Some theories suggest it’s because men have so many sexual outlets that the pressure valve is let off, taking away the dangerous cocktail of lust and frustration.

On the flipside, porn made for women has also proved a significant draw in recent years too. Sugawara continues: “About three years ago, we started making a line of films intended for women called Silk Labo.

“We sold over 10,000 DVDs, it’s selling well. Women don’t go to a shop and buy stuff like guys do, but they will buy it online.

“There are proper storylines, like idealised love stories with improbable meetings and coincidences. Guys who are strikingly attractive, and the DVD cover is discreet, so it’s not embarrassing to buy. We want to embody girls’ desires, and these are the things that sell.”

Diverse

Sasa Handa is one of the country’s most popular porn stars. Born in Okinawa, she started life as a bikini model before being offered a deal with Soft On Demand to work on porn for a living.

The most popular performers can earn between £1,400 to £3,200 a movie, with former celebrities pocketing even more.

Handa recently retired from the adult movie scene with some 50 flicks under her belt.

“I thought porn was something I’d never do myself, and when I was offered the job I was surprised. But the person who gave me the offer was really persistent and told me they would take care of me until I retired.

“My first shoot was near Lake Sagami at a really beautiful studio. It was an ‘image’ shoot, like the stylised fashion shoots, so it was beautiful.

“This was in 1996. I wasn’t nervous until the male actor appeared, then I thought, ‘Gosh, this really is porn!’ I felt the reality of it.”

Handa found having a director telling her how to have sex made it easier, as she didn’t have to reveal her true self to the millions of viewers.

As with most Japanese porn stars, Handa’s genitals were pixilated, in what insiders refer to as “the last bastion” of the industry. Some viewers hate it, others love the “mosaics” because they’re so used to them they now class them as erotic.

Hardcore

Handa adds: “For me, it’s a lot easier if the director tells me what to do at each step, because if the director says ‘Do it how you like it’, people will think that is really how I have sex, and that’s embarrassing. So if I get told what to do it’s a lot easier.”

Baba Shigeru is one of Japan’s most prolific porn directors who began working in the industry when ‘Nampa’ porn was exploding on to the Japanese scene.

“Even when humans are at breaking point, sex is important”

Nampa sees amateur girls picked up off the streets and offered the chance to have sex for cash. It’s where America got the idea for BangBus.

In his time shooting porn, Shigeru has become renowned for his domination and sexual assault scenes.

He says his most popular niches are “cute girls and boobs” and there’s also a new trend for older women starting to catch on. “In Japan that means late-twenties,” he adds.

Despite an apparent blindness to sexual taboos, Shigeru says there’s still porn practices that can shock in Japan.

“Overseas, anal sex is standard. But in Japan, that is considered to be quite hardcore,” he reveals. “Girl-boy sex scenes are the most popular, then next is anal, then S&M, then trans fetishism.”

Niche

DVDs such as Shigeru’s are traditionally stocked in backstreet stores across the country, but the popularity of such adult material has grown so large that a sex department store called M’s has opened in Tokyo to cater for all manner of fetish demands. Shoppers can get up to 30 per cent discounts if they agree to pose for a photo with whatever they’ve bought.

M’s marketing boss ‘Miss Fujino’ took us on a tour and revealed the store offers plenty of entry-level fetish clobber for the uninitiated.

“Ropes for beginners are popular, as well as eye masks and earplugs, so basically it’s S&M for the inexperienced,” she says. “With sex toys for women, the smaller sizes fit Japanese women better so they are the best selling, and the popular ones are the not so aggressive looking ones.

“When they get more experienced with toys, they might try something larger. The staff at M’s try out the products, so we know how to pitch them to our customers.”

One of the most popular items flying off the shelves in recent years has been the Tenga – a male sex toy, or “masturbation cup”, which comes in seven styles from “rolling head” to “soft tube”.

Another of their most popular items are “Dutch Wives”, or sex dolls. Ms. Fujino says: “We sell various Dutch Wives, and we have one that is transparent. It has no face or skin colour, it is just clear and they have names like Risa and Ai.

Plastic fantastic

“They’re surprisingly popular, I guess because the lack of identity on the dolls helps people’s imaginations. Some people collect them.

“Orient Dolls is a famous love doll company which has its own photo book. There are costumes for the dolls and we also have an aroma spray with the scent of a woman. The most expensive toys are the love dolls, which go for 242,000 yen (£1,400), but we only sell around six a year.”

So is there are a link between the general economic climate and what sells? Japan was hit by an earthquake in Tohoku in 2011, which had a large impact on a lot of businesses.

But a veteran porn industry expert who calls himself ‘Bara’ believes the industry’s sales have stayed solid during disaster-time because it continues to offer people an escape into a world where they can bring their freakiest fantasies to life – as long as it’s done discreetly.

“I think there’s a balancing out,” he muses. “When there was the earthquake in Tohoku we really sold well.

“I think there was just nothing to do. We really thought the shops in Tohoku would go out of business but there was a lot of interest.

“Even when humans are at breaking point, sex is important.”

Photographer Dean Fidelman has spent more than a decade capturing the art of climbing, while at the same time celebrating the human form.

Over the course of his work, a body of over one hundred photographs drawing from three generations of climbers has evolved.

Fidleman, a rock climber himself who knows the culture inside-out, has attracted climbers of all abilities to participate in a project designed to capture the essence of the climbing sprit.

The photographer has been a fixture in the Yosemite National Park climbing scene in California for nearly forty years and uses the park to capture his images.  Back in 1999, he began work on his Stone Nudes project, one of the most unique art projects the Climbing Community has ever scene.

Since then, he has traveled around the US photographing real rock climbers (both male and female) bouldering naked.

Fidelman holds the belief that both the rocks and the human body are sculptural forms.

“I’m a climber and an artist,” he says.

“I was hanging out with a group of guys known as the StoneMasters in the 70s and I’ve made climbing my life since.

“I’ve been bouldering for a really long time now and I love the movement. I like to show the rock for what it is. It’s beautiful and it’s a sculpture and I want to show how the body fits in to mimic that landscape. Spiritually and artistically, it’s been everything to me. It’s something that I can give back and help grow in the climbing community and it’s art.”

Remember The Girlfriend Experience? Well, the 2009 Steven Soderbergh movie that brought porn star Sasha Grey into the mainstream is coming back – this time as a TV series.

Grey won’t be reprising her role as the high-end call, instead handing the part of Christine Reade over to rising star Riley Keough. The name may not ring a bell, but Keough could well be climbing the Hollywood ladder when The Girlfriend Experience debuts on Starz this February.

“I don’t want to show the men in my family this show,” Keough said of her latest role. She also researched the world of escorts thoroughly, regularly Skyping with a woman who worked in the field who has “no emotional connection” to sex. “What this show portrays that is really important is that this is a woman who likes sex, without guilt and without shame,” added director Lodge Kerrigan. “She’s a sexual person.”

The idea of women playing football in their pants to protest about soccer sexism sounds like something from Viz or The Daily Mash at first.

Yet The Lingerie Football League is real – and organisers insist they’re deadly serious about the cause.

The FA banned the League from playing on any FA-approved pitches this week, calling the idea “a publicity stunt”.

But organiser Gemma Hughes hit back at the claim, telling Loaded: “Yes, the League exists partly to get publicity. But we want publicity to highlight how stupid it is that women footballers get paid so much less than men. What are the FA really afraid of?”

The men get paid how much?!

Wigan fan Hughes vowed the League will go ahead and start with eight teams in March. They’ll get around the ban by playing at university pitches, with universities in Manchester and Liverpool interested in hosting their games. “Students are on our wavelength as fellow activists,” says Hughes. “They can see what we’re trying to achieve.”

Marketing director Hughes had the idea for the Lingerie Football League six months ago, inspired by Legends Football League in America. Founded in 2013, it’s a variation of American Football played by women wearing lingerie.

“Legends is the fastest growing sport in America for popularity,” says 23-year-old Hughes. “So it could easily take off here too.”

Following the FA’s ban, Lingerie Football League has also been the subject of a petition currently signed by over 1,000 people calling the idea sexist and outdated. Hughes, who plays as a striker, insists: “This isn’t done to titillate men, quite the opposite. For one thing, we wear sports kit that just looks like lingerie – don’t think we go around freezing cold when we play.”

Hughes, who plays as a striker, said some women who have signed up for her league had given up playing before being lured by the idea. “One woman told me she was so grateful of the Lingerie Football League,” said Hughes, who is also a lingerie blogger. “She’d got fed up of being called a tomboy and a lesbian just because she plays football. It’s so sad those stereotypes still exist, but anything that counteracts them should be encouraged.”

Hughes remains open to talking to the FA about getting the ban on the Lingerie Football League overturned, and praised some of the work it’s done to help publicise the women’s game.

“The Women’s Super League is great, and the FA should be applauded for campaigns like Game Changing which encourage women to play football,” says Hughes. “But the fact remains that, 100 years ago, the FA banned women from playing football altogether because it was becoming too popular.

“Banning a League that exists to highlight how stupid it is that male footballers get paid so much more than women shows times haven’t changed that much after all.”

They’re two supermodels joined at the hip, so it’s no surprise Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have teamed up for LOVE magazine’s latest shoot.

Gigi Hadid, girlfriend of Zayn Malik, teasingly stares down the camera lens as she poses for the spring/summer issue of the magazine. And, never a shrinking violet, Jenner hops into bed wearing little more than a pink wig and a pair of sandals for her photograph.

She says: “I was always told as a kid that you need five Vogue covers to be a supermodel. I don’t know if I consider myself a supermodel, but that was what I was told you need to do. There was Italy, Netherlands, Brazil, Spain and another one. I’m forgetting. I think I got six, as I’m shooting another tomorrow, another comes out in a couple of weeks in the UK. Crazy, right?”

And Hadid added that being best friends with Jenner helps her to survive in the modelling world.

“When people are really harsh? I live with my best friend from high school, but usually I’m going to call Kendall because Kendall’s the one who will always be like ‘You don’t need that, just let it go’.

“And I know that if that’s working for her then it can work for me.”

To celebrate 100 years since Vogue was first published in Britain, the National Portrait Gallery will be showing over 280 prints from the magazine’s enviable archive this month.

The array of models that have fronted the magazine reads like a who’s who. But a century ago, Vogue was attracting other great names from the arts, including Fred Astaire and Frank Sinatra.

Naturally, Kate Moss tops the list with the most appearances in the magazine, having debuted on the cover in 1993 and going on to appear on another 35 issues.

The first real person to appear on the cover – up until then the magazine had used illustrations – was American model and actress Suzy Parker in 1958.

Leggy

And it wasn’t just the clothes horses that were the stars. Vogue’s covers also showcase the work of celebrated photographers such as Norman Parkinson, David Bailey, Mario Testino, Tim Walker, Nick Knight and Corinne Day. A Vogue commission was proof that you’d well and truly arrived. 

However, it’s not just a dalliance into another escapist illusion. Vogue also reflects what was going on in the real world, with covers such as one taken in 1941 during the Blitz with the caption “Fashion is Indestructible”. 

Twinkle toes

Since then, the likes of Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy, Celia Hammond, Veruschka, Audrey Hepburn and even Princess Anne have turned up on the cover.

By the eighties though, it was Princess Diana who was threatening Kate and the supers (Naomi, Christy, Claudia et al) for cover supremacy.

It’s a shoot that has become nearly as eagerly anticipated as the Oscars themselves, and the annual Vanity Fair awards ceremony cover has just been unveiled.

The Vanity Fair image features Oscar nominees including Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and Saoirse Ronan, newcomer Alicia Vikander and heavyweights including Diane Keaton and Helen Mirren.

The women all dressed in black for the 22nd edition of the publication’s annual special Hollywood issue.

The publication’s fashion and style director Jessica Diehl admitted that dressing such an A-list wasn’t such an easy task, admitting: “Since they’re all different in age, shape, style, and personality, I didn’t want to do anything that unified them in silhouette. I didn’t want to put them all in slinky dresses, because that felt not personal.”

But one lady who shunned any offer of styling was Diane Keaton who choose to wear her own clothes for the shoot, with Diehl admitting that Keaton knew best, saying: “Sometimes, when you get somebody like that, who has taken so much time to hone her personal style, you’re almost an idiot to try and improve upon that.”

A woman who knows her own mind

Celebrated celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz captured the image, and the cover of the magazine features Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, and Jennifer Lawrence – with the other talent behind the folds.

The model has been getting her followers hot under the collar with snaps from her professional shoots and her down time. 

The New Yorker is recently keen to promote Maybelline with some stunning behind-the-scenes shots from her campaign with the cosmetic giant.

Peppered in between her shots out and about with friends and the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle of New York with her Maybelline girls is a unique insight into of the hottest properties in modelling right now. 

The 25-year-old model was recently the star of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot where she got more then she bargained for.

DiDonato is also the former partner of Jake Gyllenhaal. They only dated for a few months in 2013. Why did they split up? Maybe it’s Maybelline.

Adriana Lima has dismissed rumours that she and fellow Victoria’s Secret veteran Alessandra Ambrosio have a feud going with the lingerie overlord’s new models Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner.

In an entirely predictable attempt at getting readers to imagine just how saucy a Lima/Ambrosio v Hadid/Jenner tag-team wrestling bout would look, OK! claimed that longstanding Victoria’s Secret models Lima and fellow Brazilian model Ambrosio were overheard slagging off their younger counterparts at an LA restaurant over lunch.

The idea of supermodels bitching each other off is hardly new, but in this instance it looks like it’s decidedly untrue.

Not gossiping

Lima wrote on Instagram: “It’s absolutely not true. Magazines sometimes make a big buzz to sell, creating negative and false reports.

“I absolutely love those two girls, and I can’t believe how negative those magazines can sometimes be. This kind of news goes against my character and against the values my mother taught me.”

So, that’s that cleared up.

Jenner and Hadid only made their debut modelling for Victoria’s Secret last November, and aren’t officially signed up as fully-fledged Victoria’s Angels yet.

Lima became an Angel in 2000, with Ambrosio following a year later. They’ve starred in 16 annual VS shows each since then, with Lima missing the 2009 parade as she was busy giving birth to her eldest daughter Valentina at the time.

Not bitching

Any truth in the catfight rumours would have been doubly awkward for Lima and Hadid, as both models also represent Maybelline in their busy world of flogging jollop.

Lima, 34, has already had a troubled few weeks. Her divorce to Serbian NBA basketballer Marko Jaric was finalised in March, two years after the couple separated following their marriage in 2009. As well as Valentina, the couple have a three-year-old daughter, Sienna.

The curvaceous model and promoter of all things big and beautiful seems to be on a one-woman mission to promote the Central American country as the go-to destination for holidaymakers seeking sun, sea and skimpy outfits.

And the Brit has decided to demonstrate her love for all things Costa Rican in the only way she knows how: though a series of revealing Instagram posts that have proven popular with her online following.

Lawrence is more than just your average good-looking girl though.

Like similar so-called “plus-size” model Ashley Graham, Lawrence is on a quest to change the way people view beauty.

Having grown up as part of a society and media mind-set that possesses a very specific set of criteria for what constitutes feminine beauty, Lawrence is doing her level best to dispel such notions.

From posing alongside enough packets of crisps to leave even Gary Lineker feeling a little overwhelmed to the more back-to-basics photoshoots designed solely to showcase the killer curves that have made Lawrence such a hit, the size 14 model is further proof that bigger is better in 2016.

The undisputed ruler of the plus-size world is IMG Models, the agency which represents Graham as well as 6ft 6ins male model Zach Miko and his 40in waist. So it’s the perfect time for IMG to unveil its latest recruit – and 31-year-old Vogue model Candice Huffine has duly been touted as the next plus-size superstar.

Except that, well, Huffine isn’t really much of a plus-sizer at all.

For Candice Huffine is only size 12. Sure, Huffine might be hefty next to Adriana Lima and Gigi Hadid, but what woman wouldn’t who eats more than the latest joyless gloop Gwyneth Paltrow is promoting?

From Huffine’s Instagram posts, she looks like any woman at her best when they’re sunbathing. And who can’t get behind attainable beauty, instead of trying to ape women who’ve come from a supermodel production line probably hatched on one of the moons of Saturn.

Even Naomi Campbell has weighed in on the weight debate, saying women like Graham should be supported by the modelling industry. Cindy Crawford, meanwhile, has insisted she isn’t going to pull the rip-chord and get stuck into the pies now she’s given up modelling. Even aged 50, Crawford says her husband Rene Gauber “would kill me” if the original supermodel got porky. Which is bold, coming from someone plainly batting above his weight.

Meet Candice Huffine – the new (supposedly) plus-size supermodel

Any hopes of seeing Ronda Rousey at UFC 200 look to have been dashed – but it appears the former women’s bantamweight champion is ready to get back to work. 

UFC supremo Dana White says Rousey’s plan is to come back towards the end of 2016. 

White said: “Ronda’s in a great place mentally, physically and emotionally; every way you can be good, she’s good.

“She’s talking about coming back at the end of this year, either in November or December.”

Rousey has been laying low since her loss in the Octagon last November to Holly Holm, but the 29-year-old vowed to come back after hearing that Holm lost in a title fight to Miesha Tate at UFC 196. 

Rousey is rumoured to be filming a pair of movie projects – a remake of Patrick Swayze’s 80s classic Road House and a CIA thriller with Mark Wahlberg called Mile 22 – but she could cut short her schedule to return to the octagon.

Dana White confirms Ronda Rousey is on the way back

The idea of being a male gigolo having sex with women for money is still stuck with the idea of either being cocky lovermen or the humour of 16-year-old virgins (yes, Deuce Bigalo: Male Gigolo, we’re looking at you).

The reality of male escorts is obviously different. 

Garren James is a college graduate with an American football scholarship. He became a male model, quickly learning what women want. And he’s used that knowledge to set up one of the biggest male escort agencies in the world.

James’ agency Cowboys4Angels is the subject of a smash reality TV show on cable – and the Las Vegas entrepreneur is unrepentant about his career.

Despite that, it was a pair of chance encounters that changed James’ life.

In 2006, he was on his first date with a prospective girlfriend and, with sparks flying between the pair, she decided to tell him about her work as the owner of an escort agency offering dates for men.

“No one would believe that the men were not gay and that they did not see men on the side”

One look at her website was enough to convince James of the merits of escort agencies. As their relationship blossomed, he became more open to the idea of creating an escort company offering dates for women.

The result was Cowboys4Angels, but it wasn’t all plain sailing.

“It was a slow start,” says James.  “No one would believe that the men weren’t gay and that they didn’t see men on the side.”

That perception started the day James appeared with the other notable woman in his life, Tyra Banks, as a guest on her popular US chatshow.

Now featured in Showtime’s hit cable series Gigolos, Cowboys4Angels’ website has gone from strength-to-strength, offering escort services offered across 12 different US cities.

Despite all those preconceptions about escorting, James is adamant it’s all good, clean, honest work – for those that can get it.

Loaded: What are your requirements before joining Cowboys4Angels?

James: We get about 10 new requests a day and the first thing we look at is the photos.  To work in this industry, you must have professional photos.  We look for college-educated men.  Once they pass that, we make a short phone call to hear how well the man can hold a conversation. 

If they pass, that we do a video interview to see his mannerisms. We then move on to the background check, a face to face final interview and a meet-and-greet from one of our regular clients. Once he passes all that, he will then go up onto the website. 

“Always remember this is a business and just like in any business, you must invest for it to grow.”

From there we constantly keep tabs after every appointment to make sure the man is getting consistently good reviews.  We’ve had over 15,000 employment requests and only represent 90 men, so we are extremely selective.  

Loaded: What advice would you have for anyone looking to become an escort?

James: Get professional photos if you want anyone to take you seriously.  Having amazing photos for a male companion is the equivalent of having a college education in the corporate world.  Before your photoshoot, I’d recommend four to six weeks of extreme diet and cardio to help bring out any abs.

Always remember this is a business and, just like in any business, you must invest for it to grow. Spend money on the best photos possible. The quality should be something seen in a magazine.

As far as advice for when you are on a date, the short answer is to leave your ego at the door.  Strong ego means you’re important and it’s all about you.  But it is never about you and always about making a client happy.

Can you talk us through the price structure for Cowboys4Angels?

We try to give a discount for the more time booked on each appointment as a thank you to our clients.  As the men move up the ranks or receive press and notoriety, the rates go up. 

Rates therefore range from as low as $300 an hour to $2,000 for an overnight date, $5,000 for a weekend trip and $15,000 for a week.

Loaded: Have you noticed a particular surge in demand for male escorts?

James: It was so slow starting in the beginning, because no one took us seriously.  Also, at first, we were not word of mouth.  Many women don’t tell friends and family about the wonderful service they experienced.  It’s more of a private thing, so they keep it as their little secret. 

Thankfully, we are more of a hot topic in the press now.  We’ve had many news appearances and those things help established our professionalism.  We’re more accepted and we get many calls that start with ‘My friend told me she had fun with your company and now it is my turn!’

We started eight years ago and the last two years we increased by about 50% of appointments from our first 6 years.  The surge and acceptance of a woman hiring a man is very strong right now.    

Loaded: Your series on Showtime is a hit – has that helped take some of the stigma out of escort work?

James: The Gigolos show has been an amazing project to work on.  It features some of our best men who all have very different personalities yet who treat all the clients the same.  You can see that no matter what the age, weight, race, economic range, or education level of a client, she is treated with love and respect. 

We do not ever discriminate against any woman and our goal is to make them all happy.  It has also shown the interaction of the men so you can see they are real and ultimately nice people.  I definitely think the show has changed viewers who once looked down the industry. It’s ironic, because so many fans now look up to them and give them praise.

Loaded: How much does the average escort earn per month, roughly?

James: I had one of my men give me a Rolex last year and on the back it said ‘1Milly club.’  He has been with me for five years and informed me he has kept track of his bookings and that he calculated that we had booked one million of total sales for him. 

It is about the level of service the men are able to provide to the clients.  Men are rarely booked on a daily basis with new clients – women tend to book longer appointments. 

These female clients seem to prefer booking the same person to meeting someone new.

So the salary of a male escort based on his ability to make someone happy and want to see him again.  It is not all about the mighty dollar. 

Loaded: What are the key requirements for being a good escort? Your website talks about the need for “emotional maturity”.

James: You must be tall and handsome, but that’s just the start.  The emotional maturity we speak of is being able to act older than your age.  A client likes a younger good-looking guy, but if you act like a child to a mature woman she will never be happy.  You must also be extremely outgoing in order to make someone feel comfortable immediately.

Dates are often short, so you have to have that ability to make women feel at ease quickly.  You must also be very well educated and have had some traveling experience.  Many appointments will be on a trip with a client and the more you know about tips on traveling the better. 

Another must quality is humor.  If you can’t make someone smile and bring joy into the conversation, you will fail.

A man of many faces

Loaded: Do you think there will always be a need for escorts and, if so, why?

James: Escorts are the quick and easy solution to finding the perfect date.  No strings attached fun for people who are often too busy with a career to have the time for a steady relationship. 

As women continue to rise to the top of the workforce and have the economic means, I only see the industry increasing.

Loaded: Have you ever had any famous clients?

James: Over the years, we have had clients on the Forbes list, CEOs of Fortune 500 Companies, famous authors and A-list celebrities. 

We would never name drop though, no matter what. The women that visit us value their privacy and famous clients especially want to feel safe.

There are no mailing lists or group texts about new men and our escorts never get given client email addresses or cell phone numbers – they do not even know their last names. Once a client uses the service, we have a strict no contact policy. 

Loaded: Tell us about some of the weirdest applications you have received…

James: Our website specifically says no nude photos and so many times, I open a photo to see men naked and in very strange poses with lots of oil or lubrication. I guess you can say this is the only downside to my job.
